Brigadier Neil Baverstock will be taking the salute for the parade at the 2010 Bracknell Armed Forces Day Event.
Brigadier Neil Baverstock was born in Zambia in 1958 and, after school in Zimbabwe and Edinburgh, attended St Andrews University before being commissioned into the Royal Green Jackets. He served subsequently in Northern Ireland, UK and Germany interspersed by staff appointments in the Ministry of Defence and UK operational headquarters during which time he transferred to the Royal Irish Regiment to command a Battalion in Northern Ireland. His most recent tour in the MOD was as the Director of Reserve Forces and Cadets. Ireland apart, he has been involved in a number of UK operations including Kosovo, Sierra Leone, Afghanistan and Iraq. Most recently, he has completed two nine-month operational tours, the first in 2007 in Baghdad as Deputy Head of Strategic Plans and Assessments in the Multinational Force Headquarters and a second in 2009 as head of the organization training the Afghan National Army. He was a member of the Royal College of Defence Studies in 2008 during the course of which he took an MA in International Relations. He assumed command of 145 (South) Brigade in November 2009. 145 (South) Brigade is responsible for providing regional support to some 21,000 military personnel and their families in 17 Garrisons and Stations spread across the 4 counties of Oxfordshire, Berkshire, Buckinghamshire and Hampshire. He is the standby commander for military operations in support of the civil authorities and the Army regional representative to local government and agencies. Brigadier Baverstock is married with four children. His wife, Alison, is a lecturer in Publishing Studies at Kingston University. He plays hockey, cricket and climbs and has a healthy aversion to DIY and gardening. |
